INCOMING!

Bobby, Uncle Mike, Max and Leo went for a bike ride. Max was trying out his new bike he got for Christmas. Leo has recently removed his training wheels and does pretty well on flat surfaces. They were going down a hill in the neighborhood. In front of them was a crowd of adults all watching a little girl driving her new battery operated jeep she got for Christmas. Having not yet mastered the brakes, Leo was picking up speed and headed right for the crowd. Leo, being Leo, started yelling "INCOMING! INCOMING!" Fortunately no one was injured but many got a good laugh.

The Abominable Snowman

We were watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The kids were terrified of the Abominable Snowman. Once it was over Bobby and I were teasing the kids that we were the Abominable Snowman coming to get them. Once we had all calmed down and were getting ready for prayers, Leo jumped up pointed at Bobby and proclaimed "You're Bob the Snowman!"

Rock-Paper-Scissors

Leo was with Momo the other day and he called me on the phone. He said, "Mommy, you wanna play Rock-Paper-Scissors or you don't?" Not sure how this was going to work, I decided to play along and I said, "Okay. Ready? One, two, three." Leo said, "What you got?" I said, "Scissors." He said, "I got Rock. I win. Good-bye."

God Bless Captain Myles Standish

We were saying our nightly prayers. When it was Max's turn to say who he wanted to pray for he said. "God bless Captain Myles Standish." We were a bit puzzled but continued with prayers (after a bit of snickering on Mom & Dad's part). The next day the kids asked to watch "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" again. I was cleaning the kitchen when I heard Linus say:

"In the year 1621, the Pilgrims held their first Thanksgiving feast. They invited the great Indian chief Massasoit, who brought ninety of his brave Indians and a great abundance of food. Governor William Bradford and Captain Myles Standish were honored guests. Elder William Brewster, who was a minister, said a prayer that went something like this: 'We thank God for our homes and our food and our safety in a new land. We thank God for the opportunity to create a new world for freedom and justice."

Ahh, thank you Linus for bringing Captain Myles Standish into our lives. We now pray for him every night. God bless you, Captain.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

I set the table with one too many plates tonight. Halfway through dinner Leo asked, "Is that plate for Jesus?" I said, "Yes, Leo, that plate is for Jesus." Leo looked at the empty plate and said "I think Jesus is finished."

She's Beautiful

I was trying to figure out who Max's art teacher was (I needed to meet up with her - I was helping with something). So, I asked Max what Mrs. Elmer looked like. He said, "She looks like Lyndsey." (Mrs. Elmer happens to be the mother of a girl in Max's class). I said, "Well, what does Lyndsey look like?" Max replied, "She has straight, long hair and the most beautiful face."

I'm Still Alive

We forgot to get Leo's booster seat out of Bobby's car last night. So I had to drive Max to school with Leo in just a seat belt. This really upset Max. He kept talking about how worried he was about Leo and how this was not safe and he doesn't think this is a good idea... I finally asked Max to stop worrying about it. As we pulled up to Max's school, Leo said, "Hey Max. I'm still alive."

And a Spanking Too

While driving home last night, I was reminding Leo that he had 7 minutes in the corner coming to him for misbehaving. So I said, "Leo when we get home you will have to spend 7 minutes in the corner." After a brief pause Katie cheerfully piped in, "and a spanking too."

Sorry

Bobby was coming home from Arkansas. He had been gone 5 days and we all missed him terribly. I told the kids that it would be really nice if they cleaned their rooms before Daddy got home. They agreed and ran off to begin cleaning. After about an hour I went to check on how the cleaning was coming along. As usually happens, the kids got distracted and had begun to play and their rooms were not clean at all. I explained that they were running out of time and that Daddy would be disappointed if he came home and their room was not straightened up. I returned to the family room. About 5 minutes later Max came running in with a piece of paper and a pencil. He said, "There's no way we're going to get our room clean in time. I'm just going to write Daddy an apology."

We've Got A Dead Dog Situation

Elsie has mellowed a lot since her puppy days. These days she can really relax and she naps all the time. When she is in a deep sleep we like to say "We have a dead dog situation." Well, I thought it would be fun to scare Elsie when she was sleeping. I got Leo to do it. She's not that easy to scare these days...

Chanting Max

Grandma gave Max an old Magnificat (It's a book a company sends out each month with all of the readings for that months Masses. Max really likes it because it helps him follow along during Mass.) Max has been walking around the house "singing" (more like a chanting) all the readings and prayers and Psalms. Last night I turned on the radio and Leo told me to turn off the music because Max was singing and he couldn't hear him. This morning Max and Leo were in the playroom and Max started "chanting" again. After about 15 minutes I heard Max ask Leo "Do you like my singing?" to which Leo answered, "Not really."

Happy Halloween!

Here are our monkies. The boys have on Curious George masks. They didn't want to wear them anymore after about 2 houses. One person thought they were "cute goblins".

Here are the "3 little bears" as many people called them.

Max has already declared that next year he wants to be a fat duck.
